WHAT IS BRAINSTORMING?Brainstorming is the process of finding new ideas and thoughts through the making of a spontaneous and creative environment. Since its inception in 1941, it has revolutionised problem solving and creativity. The creator of Brainstorming, Alex Osborn, felt that as long as a quantity of ideas were there, quality could always be found within. In other words the more ideas the better!
Brainstorming is an excellent way of focusing on and developing many creative ideas and solutions to a problem. Ideas should deliberately be as broad and as whacky as possible, and should be developed as fast as possible.
Brainstorming is a lateral thinking process. It is designed to help you break out of your thinking patterns into new ways of looking at things.Click here for more information on Brainstorming and how to get the best results from this activityClick here to read Edward de Bono’s thoughts in his ‘Water is not Soup’ essay…
PRIME YOUR BRAIN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND CAPITALISE ON OPPORTUNITIESIn both our personal and professional lives, many of us either miss or simply fail to spot potential opportunities and obvious solutions to problems. Why is this? Well most often it is because we are too focused on seeing what we want to see and thus walk around with a mental blinker on and are unaware of the obvious but unexpected. The good news however is that there are ways through which we can teach our brains to be more open to spotting these hidden gems, and increase our ability to uncover, capture and capitalise on great ideas.
