PRESS RELEASE
2 June 2005

Gordon Ramsay to head "growth academy" line-up for business leaders

Free business conference announced by the East of England Development Agency

Turnaround expert and entrepreneur Gordon Ramsay will join a team of experts and business trailblazers to deliver a major event on business growth for the region’s companies later this year.

Destination Growth – being organised by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) - will provide business leaders in the East of England with a full-day programme of practical tools, insights and inspiration to support them in driving growth in their organisations. Participants in the free programme (scheduled for November 17 2005 at the Newmarket Racecourse venue) will tailor their own day from pathways of business issues to gain what works best for them and their firm.

Gordon Ramsay, recognised as an industry phenomenon for his success in building his international empire, will be joined by world-leading thinker Edward de Bono, business maverick John Timpson and innovation guru Charles Leadbeater. The line-up will include enterprise development experts from the region’s leading business schools, export specialists such as the China-Britain Business Council, and a host of successful entrepreneurs (from the region and further afield) who will share lessons from their experiences of entering new markets, developing new products and overcoming the barriers.

Further speaker names are expected to be added to the programme in the build-up to the event. Plans for Destination Growth include some novel approaches to networking, helping to facilitate better quality contact and a starting-point for potential partnerships.

Richard Ellis, EEDA Chairman, said: “We had no intention of adding just another business event to what is already a crowded calendar. The day has a clear purpose and focuses on action, not just the airing of issues. Each element of the programme is geared towards providing companies with the spark of insight, piece of knowledge or idea for a new approach that will lead to opportunities for growth.”

News on the programme as it develops and pre-registration for Destination Growth is available at www.eeda.org.uk/destinationgrowth. For information on sponsoring or exhibiting at Destination Growth, email destinationgrowth@eeda.org.uk.

The event has grown from the successful space for ideas campaign for businesses. Last year saw Charles Handy, Baroness Susan Greenfield, Robert Heller and Jonathon Porritt take part in the region’s campaign, pitching in with world-class thinking, ideas audits and director seminars. More than 40,000 essays offering practical inspiration on ideas in business were downloaded from the space for ideas web site (www.spaceforideas.uk.com). Organisers regard Destination Growth as a means of turning the thinking into practice, and gives businesses more opportunities to get involved directly with a powerful programme of experts and practitioners.
